Program details

Project WILD is an interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program emphasizing wildlife. The program is designed for educators of kindergarten through twelfth grade. Project WILD capitalizes on the natural interest that children and adults have in wildlife by providing hands-on activities that enhance student learning in all subject and skill areas. Project WILD educational materials are provided to educators through practical, interactive workshops.

The MISSION of Project WILD is to provide wildlife-based conservation and environmental education that fosters responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources.

The GOAL of Project WILD is to assist learners of any age in developing awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment that result in informed decisions, responsible behavior, and constructive actions concerning wildlife and the environment upon which all life depends.

Project WILD state coordinators and facilitators conduct workshops for approximately 55,000 educators each year throughout the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The Project WILD activity guide is available at no cost to teachers and educators who participate in the Project WILD workshop. The workshops are usually free of charge, except in cases where a sponsor of a workshop may charge a fee to recover expenses incurred for hosting the workshop or where college or university credit is offered. Project WILD workshops are available in South Carolina through local school districts and sponsors of youth organizations, or you can sponsor your own.

Project WILD has received numerous awards and endorsements for its innovative approach to environmental education. Awards include a 1991 President’s Environment and Conservation Challenge Award for Education & Communications and a 1984 Conservation Education Award from the Wildlife Society. Project WILD has been endorsed by the National Council for the Social Studies, the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.
